Buried Memories
A wooden box
Contains a skeleton
A skeleton of a lifetime
A lifetime of hardwork
A lifetime of hardship
A lifetime of joys
A lifetime of resilience
A lifetime of love
A lifetime of pain
A lifetime of dedication
A lifetime of lessons
A lifetime of care
Surrounded by tears of loved ones
Survived lifes thunderstorms
Sprinkled with the universes love
Man returns to his first form
Returning his broken body and resilient soul
His words echoing through individuals
Lessons left etched in hearts
His soul hovers and rises
Keeping watch while finally resting above
Leaving a lifetime of lessons to be learned
Scattered golden nuggets in the bloodstained path of life
Pepe,I miss you,I love you,I hope I make you proud
My grandfather-Pepe died last Saturday, January 22. It’s why I went mostly MIA here, my brother, sister in law and I traveled to Paris for his funeral. It was a super complex trip, enjoying time with my grandmother and cousins and then sitting in the sprinkling rain behind my grandmother looking at my grandfather's coffin. Relationships are complicated, and I definitely didn’t have as much time with my Pepe as I wish I did but I look up to him and learned so much from him. He survived the holocaust married and took care of his family, I hope and plan to take and use many lessons I learned from him to continue creating ever-lasting change and achieve goals, ones he would be proud of me for. I love you, Pepe.
