Sunchoke and Potato Gratin
Hey everyone
So today I created my own recipe based off a few ideas I saw after I fell in love with these interesting root vegetables called sunchokes which are sometimes also called jerusalem artichokes. I was looking up many different recipes and ideas but nothing spoke to me.So I looked around our pantry and found some potatoes and started creating some kind of vision in my head so heres the recipe.
Sunchoke and Potato Gratin
8 Sunchokes
7 Potatoes
6 cloves of Garlic
3/4 cup grated Kashkaval cheese ( any grated semi salty cheese will do)
1/2 cup grated Feta cheese (the feta that I had was more of a semi hard block then crumbly)
Salt,Pepper and onion powder to taste
4 eggs
1/2 cup sour cream
1/4 milk
olive oil
How To:
Preheat oven to 360 degrees
1. Slice the sunchokes, potatoes and garlic thinly
2. Add the cheese and the spices
3.Toss in some olive oil
4. Layer potatoes and sunchokes in flat layers in baking dish
5.Bake for 40 minutes covered
6.In a mixing bowl add eggs sour cream and milk mix till combined
7.Add the egg mixture to pan and cover
8.Cook for another 30 minutes covered
9.Cook for 15 min uncovered.
Serve
Can keep in an airtight container in the fridge for 5-7 days
My family and I all loved the dish I found it not spicy enough for my middle eastern tastebuds so when i ate it I made a mix of white cheese and harissa and dipped the dish in. But it was delicious without. Even my younger sister with her crazy picky tastebuds quite liked the dish.
Happy cooking
